What's left behind the scenes
- Executive producer Patrick Walters supported the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for 'Heartstopper'. After reading the original comic by Alice Oseman (who became one of the writers), he suggested that the management of See-Saw Films consider an adaptation.
- Kit Connor initially auditioned for the role of Charlie Spring, which was eventually played by Joe Locke. In the end, Connor played Nick Nelson.
- The characters Imogen (played by Rhiannon Leigh Hatton) and Isaac (played by Tobie Donovan) are absent from the comics by Alice Oseman, who served as one of the writers. They were created specifically for this adaptation. According to Oseman, she created Imogen to give Kit Connor's Nick a girlfriend outside the main group of characters and to add drama to the script. Isaac replaced a character named Alied.
