Short description

The story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there's almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The city of Filly is named as such because it is located at a waste disposal site and has no connection to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (which is sometimes called Philly).
  • Vault 33 is located in the same region where the action of the first two games of the franchise takes place, but the vault itself is never shown in those games. Some consider this a plot hole, but one of the franchise's creators explained that he and his colleagues didn't initially have a defined list of vaults, and "no one even thought" about what would happen a quarter of a century later (the first game in the franchise was released in October 1997).
  • The video game Fallout 3 was released in 2008, and since then, Bethesda Softworks has been repeatedly approached with proposals to create a series based on the games. The company felt that none of those making such proposals envisioned the future series the way the game developers would prefer, and they rejected all offers until Jonathan Nolan approached them.
  • At the beginning of each episode, the Fallout logo disappears from the screen in various ways, or the same thing happens to it as to one of the characters, such as being shot, burned, etc.
  • In the final episode of the first season, Lucy's father enters the code 101097. This is the release date of the first Fallout game — October 10, 1997.
  • Filming took place, in particular, in Kolmanskop (a mining ghost town in Namibia in the middle of the desert, which over time was turned into an open-air museum and is frequently used for movie shoots) and at the Skeleton Coast.
  • To prepare for her role, Ella Purnell played the Fallout video game series.
