- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Frédéric Beigbeder, which was published in France in 1997. The book contained a number of autobiographical elements, which many years later prompted the author to agree to personally work on its adaptation.
- Initially, it wasn't about Frédéric Beigbeder adapting his own novel. The rights to the book were purchased back in 2006, producers came and went, and the project didn't move forward. Eventually, producers Alain Kruger and Michael Gentile made an offer to the author, and after much hesitation, he agreed.
- The opening credits and several night scenes were filmed using a Canon EOS 5D camera. Inexpensive and very easy to use, this camera was used in the filming of such French films as 'Prowler' (2011) and 'Declaration of War' (2011).
