Short description

Lawrence Talbot, an American man on a visit to Victorian London to make amends with his estranged father, gets bitten by a werewolf and, after a moonlight transformation, leaves him with a savage hunger for flesh.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Mark Romanek was originally supposed to direct the film, but he left the project due to financial disagreements.
  • Benicio Del Toro's werewolf makeup took 3 hours to apply and 1 hour to film.
  • Makeup artist Rick Baker first made a cast of Benicio del Toro's face and then sculpted a wolf's muzzle onto it. Based on the cast, he created a mold-like form from fiberglass and filled it with polymer foam. Once the latex set, elements of the mask were created that could be secured to the actor's face – a hood with wolf ears and a facial part with a protruding muzzle. All that remained was to apply strands of natural yak wool.
