Short description
London is terrorized by a vicious sex killer known as The Necktie Murderer. Following the brutal slaying of his ex-wife, down-on-his-luck Richard Blaney is suspected by the police of being the killer. He goes on the run, determined to prove his innocence.

- A film adaptation of Arthur La Bern's novel "Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square" (English: Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square).
- Alfred Hitchcock cameo: he stands in the center of the crowd of listeners, the only one not applauding the speaker. Initially, Hitchcock planned a role for his cameo as a drowned man floating down the Thames. A mannequin was made with an exact copy of Hitchcock's head, but this idea was not implemented, and the mannequin was used to film a promotional trailer for the film.
- Hitchcock offered Vladimir Nabokov to write the screenplay for this film, but Nabokov declined. As a result, Anthony Shaffer wrote the screenplay.
- The film was shot from August to October 1971. Filming took place at the Pinewood Studios pavilion in the UK and on location in London (Covent Garden, Oxford Street).
- Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980) established a filming schedule for shooting in London's Covent Garden that involved shooting daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Once, during filming, as Hitchcock was finishing another take, a union representative approached him and stated that it was already a quarter to seven in the evening and the shooting should be stopped. This enraged Hitchcock so much that he threatened to finish filming in Hollywood. After this incident, no one from the unions was allowed on the set.
