Short description

In 1930s Prague, a Czech cremator who firmly believes cremation relieves one from earthly suffering is drawn inexorably to Nazism.

What's left behind the scenes

At the end of the film, the main character, played by Rudolf Grushinsky (1920-1994), delivers a monologue next to the right panel of Hieronymus Bosch's triptych (1450-1516) “The Garden of Earthly Delights” (1500-1510). Other works by Bosch are also shown in the film, in particular, “The Carrying of the Cross” (1490-1500).
