Short description

In 1930s Prague, a Czech cremator who firmly believes cremation relieves one from earthly suffering is drawn inexorably to Nazism.

What's left behind the scenes

  • At the end of the film, the main character, played by Rudolf Grushinsky (1920-1994), delivers a monologue next to the right panel of Hieronymus Bosch's triptych (1450-1516) “The Garden of Earthly Delights” (1500-1510). Other works by Bosch are also shown in the film, in particular, “The Carrying of the Cross” (1490-1500).
