Short description
When her great aunt dies, famed horror hostess Elvira heads for the uptight new England town of Falwell to claim her inheritance of a haunted house, a witch's cookbook and a punk rock poodle. But once the stuffy locals get an eyeful of the scream queen's ample assets, all hell busts out & breaks loose.
What's left behind the scenes
- A twelve-meter trench was dug before the fueling, into which gasoline was poured. This was done for filming a scene involving the explosion of a gas station.
- The main character's car was made special. A rear-wheel-drive luxury 1958 Ford Thunderbird was purchased for $2,500 and completely converted, though the total cost exceeded $7,000. After filming, the car remained with the lead actress, Cassandra Peterson. She used it to travel to promotional and charity events, which she attended in her Elvira persona.
- The image of the TV presenter, played by Tress MacNeille, was based on a real-life presenter from a local television channel with whom Cassandra Peterson had once clashed.
- The portrait of Aunt Morgana Talbot actually depicts Cassandra Peterson herself—just without the makeup and wig.
- It took five days to film the scene in which Elvira is burned at the stake. Every day of filming, actress Cassandra Peterson had to spend long hours tied to a post. During the filming of the burning, the heat became so intense that it melted Cassandra's black wig.
