- Russell Crowe became the second Oscar winner after Marlon Brando to play the role of Jor-El. Crowe once had a song with his band Rus Le Roq titled 'I want to be like Marlon Brando'.
- The character Whitney Fordman did not exist in the original comics. He was created for the series 'Smallville' (2001–2011), which tells the story of Clark Kent's school years.
- Filming in the cities of Plano and Chicago (Illinois) took place in August and September 2011 under the project's code name 'Autumn Frost.' It was kept secret so poorly that the Chicago Tribune published a full article about it on September 6, 2011.
- Connie Nielsen was considered for the role of Lara Lor-Van. Julia Ormond was also considered for the role but declined, and the part ultimately went to Ayelet Zurer.
