Light years from Earth, 26 years after being abducted, Peter Quill finds himself the prime target of a manhunt after discovering an orb wanted by Ronan the Accuser.
What's left behind the scenes
- The props team spent four months searching for a cassette player that Peter Quill almost never parts with in the plot. In the end, they managed to find only 16 players in various conditions that were suitable for filming.
- To prepare for her role as Nebula, Karen Gillan had to shave her head.
- A team led by renowned prop master Barry Gibbs worked on creating the artifact known as 'the sphere'. The outer shell of the structure is made of aluminum coated with silver, which was first treated with an oxidizing solution and then drilled with numerous holes.
- Throughout the film's production, special effects makeup artists created approximately 1250 silicone prosthetics for faces. 50 makeup artists worked on set, divided into groups to create the look of each character.
- Benicio del Toro described his character as "Liberace in outer space".
- Olivia Wilde turned down the role of Gamora, and Gina Carano, Rachel Nichols, and Adrianne Palicki auditioned, but the role ultimately went to Zoe Saldana.

- While attending the 18th Nantucket Film Festival, Glenn Close said that she agreed to take a role in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' because it would allow her to appear in a genre of film that she truly enjoys.
- According to producer Victoria Alonso, the characters of Rocket and Groot were created using a combination of motion capture technology and rotoscoping. The role of the raccoon was performed by James Gunn's brother, Sean Gunn.
- In the scene in the Knowhere mines, where Peter Quill is alone with Gamora, Quill mentions a legend in which 'Kevin Bacon taught an entire town of inflated turkeys the art of dance.' This is, of course, a reference to the film 'Footloose' (1984).

- A five-person team worked on creating Drax's memorable look. Every day, four hours were spent applying prosthetic makeup, which consisted of 18 separate pieces for the face and body. By the end of filming, Dave Bautista had spent a total of about seven days in the makeup artists' chairs.
- The spaceship 'Milano', belonging to Peter Quill, was modeled after the Bell Aircraft X-1 rocket plane. The 'Milano' is a complex, two-level set: the cockpit is located on the upper level, and the living quarters are below. Several workshops worked on building the ship for about two weeks. The interior of Peter's ship was designed not only to remind him of Earth, but also to represent the latest in technological advancement – the entire dashboard is finished with high-quality materials, chrome, and leather, and externally the ship resembles a racing car.
