Short description
Frank Drebin is persuaded out of retirement to go undercover in a state prison. There he has to find out what top terrorist, Rocco, has planned for when he escapes. Adding to his problems, Frank's wife, Jane, is desperate for a baby.
What's left behind the scenes
- Frank's 'nightmarish' dream at the beginning is a parody of the famous shootout scene at the train station from the film 'The Untouchables' (1987), and the episode with the strollers is a reference to the Odessa Steps massacre from the film 'Battleship Potemkin' (1925).
- At the end of the film, the main villain Papshmir sits in the toilet and flips through a Playboy magazine with Anna Nicole Smith on the cover.
- The prison fight scene involved members of biker gangs hired specifically for this purpose (they were hired to make the prisoners look believable). At the time, no one knew it, but members of four rival gangs participated in the filming of this scene. Fortunately, there were no incidents.
- On the day of filming the flashback shootout, George Kennedy (1925-2016), who played Edd, fell ill with pneumonia. He felt so bad that he couldn't even walk. Director Peter Segal ordered him to sit throughout the entire scene. The actor doesn't even get up when his character meets Frank, played by Leslie Nielsen (1926-2010). And when it was time for his character to leave, Kennedy simply leaned back so that he was out of the camera's frame, creating the impression that his character had gotten up and walked out.
- The so-called 'rare' Canary Island pine is, in reality, the most widespread tree in the world.
- The film's title alludes to long-playing vinyl records that were played at a speed of 33 and one-third revolutions per minute. The original title was 'Naked Gun 33 1/3: For the Record' (the English 'record' translates as both a record and a recording, and the phrase 'for the record' means 'for the record' or 'for the report'), but it was changed to '…The Final Insult' for fear that not all audiences would appreciate the pun.
