Short description

Set during the summer of 1957. Ex-racecar driver, Enzo Ferrari, is in crisis. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another.

Michael Mann had dreamed of making this film for around 30 years. According to an article dated 1993, Mann wanted to shoot this biopic with Robert De Niro in the lead role after the 1992 action drama "The Last of the Mohicans".
Adam Driver was not allowed to drive the original racing cars featured in the biopic. However, Patrick Dempsey was allowed to drive copies of some of the open-top vehicles.

Christian Bale was cast in the lead role in the film in late 2015. This would have been his first collaboration with director Michael Mann since the action film “Public Enemies” (2009), but Bale left the project, deciding he wouldn't be able to gain the necessary weight before filming began, and was replaced by Hugh Jackman, who was ultimately replaced by Adam Driver.
