Short description

Global panic ensues when it is revealed that a mysterious UFO is actually a giant turkey-like bird that flies at supersonic speed and has no regard for life or architecture.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The name of the bird, La Carcagne, is borrowed from Franco-Canadian folklore, but there it referred to a witch with a wolf's head and bat wings. Like a Banshee, it is a symbol of death.
  • The film was poorly received due to the bird's ridiculous appearance, but nevertheless, until the end of the 1950s, "Giant Claw" was the most popular giant monster film after "King Kong" and "Godzilla".
  • Some special effects were taken from the film "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" (1956).
