Short description

Alice, the only relatively normal member of the eccentric Sycamore family, falls in love with Tony Kirby, but his wealthy banker father and snobbish mother strongly disapprove of the match. When the Kirbys are invited to dinner to become better acquainted with their future in-laws, things don't turn out the way Alice had hoped.

During the filming of the movie, Ann Miller (1923-2004) was only 15 years old. Her character had to strike various ballet poses, which were painful for the girl to perform. Miller did everything that was required, then ran off the set, hid in a quiet corner, and cried from the pain. James Stewart (1908-1997) once noticed that she was crying. He didn't know the reason, but from then on, he would occasionally order sweets for Miller, which were delivered to the set by the boxload.

Firstly, he considered the sum of $200,000 to be too high. Secondly, he had not yet recovered from the quarrels with Capra regarding the final cut of 'Lost Horizon,' where the director had the last word. Capra himself held a grudge against Cohn due to disputes surrounding the film 'If You Only Knew How to Cook' (William A. Seiter, 1935) starring Jean Arthur (1900-1991).
Shortly before filming began, Lionel Barrymore (1878-1954) became confined to a wheelchair due to a broken hip and arthritis. The script was rewritten so that Barrymore could film using crutches, as his character had supposedly sprained his ankle.
