Short description
While vacationing on a remote German island with his younger pregnant wife, an artist has an emotional breakdown while confronting his repressed desires.
What's left behind the scenes
- Psychoanalysts call "the hour of the wolf" the time when a person, left alone, takes stock.
- Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007) wrote the screenplay in 1964 and initially titled the story "Cannibals." He was then hospitalized with pneumonia, where he reassessed the entire project and decided that realizing this concept would be too expensive. Bergman returned to this idea shortly after filming "Persona" (1966), but reworked it into something more affordable.
