Short description

A high-school gym teacher has big plans for the summer, but is forced to cancel them to teach a "bonehead" English class for misfit goof-off students. Fortunately, his unconventional brand of teaching fun field trips begins to connect with them, and even inspires ardor in some.

What's left behind the scenes

  • It can be noticed that one of the fingers on Mark Harmon's left hand, portraying Shup, is injured. The actor actually sustained the injury during the filming of the party scene, when he had to extinguish a burning bed.
  • The same school was used in John G. Avildsen's (1935-2017) sports drama "The Karate Kid" (1984).
  • Director Carl Reiner (1922-2020) specifically scheduled the filming of the scene where students try to scare the substitute teacher with blood and scary makeup for October 31st, so that the actors involved could go straight to Halloween parties in those costumes after filming.
