Short description
In this humorous paean to the joys of food, a pair of truck drivers happen onto a decrepit roadside shop selling ramen noodles. The widowed owner, Tampopo, begs them to help her turn her establishment into a paragon of the "art of noodle-soup making". Interspersed are satirical vignettes about the importance of food to different aspects of human life.
What's left behind the scenes
- The omelet scene is a reference to Charlie Chaplin.
- When Goro washes his car, he splashes a bucket of water over it but uses no cleaning agents, in accordance with the Shinto ritual of purification.
- In reality, pearl divers do not use scuba gear. Japanese pearl divers rely solely on their own lungs. Some of them can remain underwater for up to seven minutes.
- When the criminal in the white suit examines the oyster served to him, it is noticeable that the shell is open by nearly an inch, meaning the oyster is dead and the shell is empty. However, when the shell is pried open, an oyster is shown inside.
