Short description

After his wife and daughter are murdered in a home invasion, a widower named John now finds himself up against an army of Universal Soldiers in relentless pursuit, led by a mysterious leader who promises to set UniSols free from their conditioning.

What's left behind the scenes

  • According to director John Hyams, the fight between John (Scott Adkins) and Luke Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme) was intended to be more acrobatic, but the scene had to be redesigned when Adkins tore his knee ligaments before filming.
  • Besides Van Damme and Lundgren, the only actors from the previous installment were Andrei Orlovsky and Christopher Van Varenberg.
  • It is claimed that Jean-Claude Van Damme did not like the staging of his final fight with Scott Adkins' character, and that he even stated that “no one fights like that.” Adkins, in turn, recounted in an interview that during the filming of this scene, he moved slower than usual for Van Damme's convenience, who was more accustomed to a more measured pace of combat than Adkins' Hong Kong style. In addition, Adkins filmed this scene with a minor leg injury, which also affected his mobility.
  • It is claimed that Jean-Claude Van Damme disliked the fact that his character was destined to die at the hands of the character played by Scott Adkins (i.e., John), and he was only persuaded to play the death scene exactly as written in the script once filming had already begun.
  • The first film in the series shot in 3D.

  • There are no scenes in this film where Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren appear together.
  • The original title of the film translates to "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning".
  • It is claimed that Jean-Claude Van Damme didn't like the fact that his character was supposed to die at the hands of Scott Adkins' character (John), and he was persuaded to play the scene of his character's death exactly as written in the script only after filming had already begun.
  • Filming took place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from May 9 to June 19, 2011.
  • It is claimed that Jean-Claude Van Damme was unhappy with the choreography of his final fight with Scott Adkins' character, even stating that "nobody fights like that." Adkins, for his part, mentioned in an interview that he moved slower than usual during the filming of this scene for Van Damme's convenience, as Van Damme is more accustomed to a measured fight rhythm than Adkins' Hong Kong style. Additionally, Adkins filmed this scene with a minor leg injury, which also affected his mobility.
