Short description

Opposites attract when, during their college days, Katie Morosky, a politically active Jew, meets Hubbell Gardiner, a feckless WASP. Years later, in the wake of World War II, they meet once again and, despite their obvious differences, attempt to make their love for each other work.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Warren Beatty could have played Hubble. Interestingly, the following year, when casting for "The Great Gatsby," the main role was offered to Warren Beatty, but Robert Redford ultimately played it. Ryan O'Neal was also considered for the role of Hubble.
  • Hubble's book is called "A Country Made of Ice Cream."
  • Peter Bogdanovich refused to direct the film, and later greatly regretted it.
  • Warren Beatty could have played Hubble. Notably, the following year, when *The Great Gatsby* was being cast, the lead role was offered to Warren Beatty, but Robert Redford ended up playing it again. Ryan O'Neal was also considered for the role of Hubble.
  • Hubbell's book is called "A Country Made of Ice Cream".
