What's left behind the scenes
- In the original books, the character named Peter Judd (played by Samuel West) is clearly based on former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. In the series, the resemblance between them is not as apparent.
- Animals are frequently mentioned in the series. Agents who have messed up and been gathered at Slough House are called 'slow horses'; representatives of internal investigations are 'dogs'; surveillance officers are 'stoats'; those who search for vulnerabilities in security systems are 'tigers'; and analysts are 'weasels'.
- The lines spoken by David Cartwright, played by Jonathan Pryce, at the end of the first season's finale are references to John le Carré's series of novels about British intelligence agent George Smiley, specifically the 1963 book 'The Spy Who Came in from the Cold'. Gary Oldman, who plays Jackson Lamb in the series, played the role of Smiley in the thriller 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' (Tomas Alfredson, 2011).
