What's left behind the scenes
- The series first aired on the American channel Fox Kids on November 19, 1994. The broadcast ended on January 31, 1998.
- While the Marvel animated series 'X-Men' (1992) was produced by Saban, 'Spider-Man' was released thanks to the newly formed Marvel Films Animation studio; it was the only series created by this studio in collaboration with Tokyo Movie Shinsha and Korean studios. This series is the second longest of Marvel's creations, following 'X-Men', which lasted for 6 years with 5 seasons and 65 episodes. Currently, the rights to the cartoon belong to The Walt Disney Company, which acquired them from Fox Kids in 2001.
- Stan Lee and Avi Arad served as executive producers of the show. Stan Lee, one of the creators of Spider-Man, stated that he checked 'every premise, every plot, every original, every model sheet, every script department of the studio—everything—to ensure the series stayed true to the spirit of the comic.' He and the series editor, John Semper, hired writers with comic book experience to work on the originals, including Gary Conway and Mary Wolfman.
- Producer Bob Richardson wanted to give the show a 'modern live-action feel' by blending computer graphics with traditional animation. Richardson was pleased with the result.
- One of the obligations of working with Fox Kids was to make the show educational by introducing solvable, age-appropriate social issues.
- In 2005, several episodes were redubbed at the studio due to the theft of the animated series' audio tracks. Some well-known actors were invited for the re-recording, including Tobey Maguire (who voiced the main character), who played the role of Spider-Man in the film of the same name.
- To recreate the illustrations of the New York City background, the animation team researched a vast amount of visual material, using archives of photographs of the original New York, especially the rooftops. For greater realism, the animators studied maps. The buildings were reproduced quite well, and every detail was meticulously drawn. The animators populated the city with cars and crowds of people in the street backgrounds. Semper believed that this was the most successful Spider-Man project. Initially, Marvel Films planned to create the backgrounds entirely using CGI technology for Spider-Man's web-slinging flights; however, the animators were forced to use animation based on a traditional moving image buffer, occasionally utilizing CGI backgrounds.
- “Spider-Man” was nominated for 1st place in the “Best Animation” category in 1996.
- According to IGN, “Spider-Man” (1994-1998) is the 84th best animated series.
- The broadcast of 'Spider-Man' received high ratings in Germany, Portugal, and Spain. In the UK, the episodes averaged 2.5 million viewers. In early 1996, the series began airing in Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Israel, Mexico, Russia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and South Africa. In Bulgaria, the first season was broadcast on NOVA Television, with reruns airing on Evrokom. In 2001, all 65 episodes were aired on bTV, and reruns can currently be seen on Diema Family. In South Korea, the show was also broadcast on KBS in 19 languages. In Japan, the series aired on Japanese Cartoon Network. As of January 2012, it had been broadcast on 31 channels.
- Between 2002 and 2005, DVD box sets were created in Poland, which included collections of several episodes from the animated series combined into a single plot. There were 5 in total. Later, in 2006, a 5-disc edition was released, including all feature-length films and several bonuses.
