What's left behind the scenes

  • For six weeks, members of the crew and cast of the series lived on two small yachts in the Arctic Ocean.
  • Almost the entire series was filmed in Norway, with the final work completed in studio pavilions.
  • On one occasion, filming had to be interrupted when a walrus accidentally wandered onto the set.
  • Due to the weather conditions and temperatures, the actors in the series had to work with almost no rehearsals.
  • Because it was impossible to contact the mainland (especially at night), the filmmakers set up an improvised bar on the shore and often hung out there. Jack O'Connell (who played former military surgeon Patrick Sumner) and Colin Farrell (who played Henry Drax, a harpooner and killer) do not drink alcohol, so they did not attend these parties.
  • While working on the look of his character, Colin Farrell, who played Henry Drax, lifted weights and ate heavily before the filming period began. He did not consult with trainers or doctors; the actor simply studied old photographs of boxers and dockworkers.
  • The series featured the three-masted schooner 'Activ', built in Denmark in 1951. This same vessel appeared in John Huston's 1956 drama 'Moby Dick' and other projects.
