What's left behind the scenes
- The pilot episode was filmed for the streaming service Hulu, but its management decided not to move forward with the project, so its competitor, Netflix, took it over.
- The action of the comics that served as the basis for the series' script takes place in the city of Lovecraft, Massachusetts, which is a reference to the writer and journalist H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937). The creators of the series changed the city's name to Mathison in memory of the writer and screenwriter Richard Matheson (1926-2013), from whose works the authors of the original comics drew significant inspiration.
- This is the third pilot episode based on the comic book series of the same name, and the third attempt to launch a project on this basis. Fox filmed the first pilot in 2010, but everything stalled there, and the pilot was subsequently shown only at San Diego Comic-Con (an annual non-profit multi-genre entertainment and comic book industry festival held since 1970). The second unsuccessful attempt was a screen adaptation by Universal Studios.
