What's left behind the scenes

  • When Agent Jimmy Woo (played by Randall Park) presents his identification, he makes a sharp flick of the wrist, and the ID appears in his hand as if by magic. This is a reference to the character's first appearance in Peyton Reed's sci-fi action movie "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018), where he is constantly amazed by the lead character's (played by Paul Rudd) ability to perform various tricks, while he himself is incapable of anything similar.
  • Cinematographer Jess Hall used 47 different camera lenses to depict the various time periods in which the film takes place. Many of these were modern lenses specifically designed with the characteristics of lenses from the required era. The lighting was also period-appropriate. For scenes set in the 1950s-1970s, incandescent lamps were used, as those were the standard in cinematography at the time. For scenes set in the present day, LED lighting was used instead.
  • The series was partially filmed at the Warner Bros. ranch located in the suburbs of Los Angeles.
  • "WandaVision" was inspired by classic 20th-century sitcoms, which is why the first episode was filmed before a live audience. Everyone present on set signed non-disclosure agreements.
  • The miniseries utilizes different aspect ratios. For episodes set in the 1950s-1970s, a 1.33:1 or 4:3 format was used, reminiscent of the images on early television models. Episodes set in the 1980s-2010s were shot in the modern 1.78:1 or 16:9 format. Finally, the series also features an anamorphic format of 2.39:1 or 2.4:1.
  • The most difficult part after the COVID restrictions was the final scene with the townspeople and Wanda. It was originally intended that they would swarm Wanda, but instead, they simply stand at a distance. Jacqueline Schaefer decided that this was actually better.
  • For maximum authenticity, the film crew wore 1950s-style clothing, and the cinematographers used vintage lenses so that the series' visuals would resemble old television.
  • Initially, the role of Billy was offered to Julian Hilliard, but he had to turn it down due to commitments to other projects. Jackson Robert Scott was then cast in the role and even appeared in several episodes, but production stalled due to the lockdown. By the time work on the series resumed, Scott was busy with other projects, and Hilliard was brought back for the role of Billy.
