What's left behind the scenes

The first season is based on a novella and the second on a short story by Simon Rich; however, he specifically asked the actors not to read them and to rely on improvisation instead.
Initially, actor Owen Wilson served as one of the series' producers and was set to play the role of God, but he left the project due to creative differences. The role of God went to Steve Buscemi.
It is based on the novel 'What in God’s Name' by American writer and screenwriter Simon Rich.
