What's left behind the scenes

  • Eddie's Bar, which the characters frequently visit, is actually located where it is shown on screen in Chicago, and is called Emmet's Irish Pub.
  • Originally, 'Four Walls' was the name of a small retail chain owned by Sears.
  • Deborah Baker Jr. became the third actress to play Esther, meaning scenes featuring her predecessors had to be reshot. The actress appeared in a significant number of first-season episodes, but was always considered a 'guest star,' leaving her unaware in advance whether she would be filming the next episode. Joel McHale assured her that she would be added to the permanent cast in the second season, but the series was canceled after the first season.
  • To film this series, Joel McHale (who played Jeff here) left the weekly satirical show 'The Soup' on the E! network, where he was the host, and the program subsequently shut down.
