What's left behind the scenes

  • Every character in the series has four fingers on each hand.
  • Arnold's last name is never mentioned throughout the entire series.
  • Helga has only one eyebrow. Rhonda, Sid, and Iggy have no eyebrows at all.
  • All characters always wear the same clothes (a common issue in all other animated series), but occasional outfit changes do occur; for example, Arnold puts on pajamas before bed and his team uniform while playing basketball. Additionally, Rhonda bought herself a new sweater in one of the episodes.
  • Depending on the episode, Arnold uses one of several different alarm clocks: "Arnold's Hat" – an alarm clock in the shape of a tiny Arnold that repeats "Hey, Arnold!"; a radio clock; a small pink book that makes strange sounds; and a mechanical clock.
  • All of Arnold's classmates have known each other since kindergarten, except for Lila and Lorenzo, who transferred into Arnold's class in season 3, and Torvald, who was held back for a third year.
  • The school's assembly hall is named after Woodrow Wilson.
  • The difference in character design across different episodes is very noticeable. The depiction of Arnold's grandfather in his youth varies especially significantly. For example, in the episodes 'Iron Phil' and 'Old Building,' they are two completely different-looking characters. This is because the animation style gradually changed, and the characters 'became cuter' (the first episodes were drawn personally by Craig Bartlett, while in subsequent ones, the primary workload fell on other artists).
  • In the episode 'Iron Phil,' during the Chinese checkers tournament, an allusion can be spotted in the names of the two players: Boris Lasky and Robbie Fisher. The authors modified the names of real people—former world chess champions Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer (who became champion in 1972 by defeating Spassky).
  • The show's character, the unemployed Oscar Kokoschka, shares his name with a real person—an Austrian artist and writer of Czech origin who was a leading figure of Austrian Expressionism.
  • The series is set in the late 1990s, yet it contains numerous anachronisms: a large number of cars from the 40s to the 70s, household appliances from the same era, steam locomotives on the railroad, and so on.
  • Information regarding Arnold's date of birth is contradictory: in the episode "Marriage," Arnold says he was born on the 7th, but the episode "Diary" suggests that his parents left Hillwood on October 5th—shortly after Arnold turned one. In a chat with fans, the creator mentioned that Arnold (like himself) is a Libra, meaning his birthday is most likely in October.
  • In the episode "Beautiful Vacations," the musical "Rats," which Helga and Big Bob attend, is a parody of the famous musical "Cats."
  • Throughout the entire series, Arnold and Helga kiss only twice—during the school play and in the episode "Summer Love."
  • From the street, it is visible that Arnold's room is on the second floor. However, for some reason, one must go up a staircase from the second floor to reach it.
  • Years pass throughout the episodes. Nevertheless, Arnold and his friends are still in the 4th grade.
  • In the episode "Fighting Families," the score is 20:5 before the commercial break. After the break, it is 30:5.
  • Arnold listens to a radio station called MJZZ (M Jazz), but radio stations with names starting with the letter M only exist in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
  • Arnold constantly wears a warm sweater, even though it is at least 30 degrees outside. This is evident from Helga's light clothing.
