What's left behind the scenes
- The 2002 episode "Fire at Hooper's Store" was inspired by the terrorist attacks in New York. It was intended that watching it would help children better cope with tragic situations.
- Following the death of Will Lee, the creative team decided not to seek another actor for the role of the grocer. Instead, they brought in a child psychologist to assist the screenwriters, and together they wrote an episode centered on the theme of losing a loved one. In subsequent fan polls, this episode was consistently named one of the most touching in the entire franchise.
- According to the 2004 Guinness World Records, Sesame Street has been broadcast in 180 countries. The series earned the title of the 'most popular children's educational program.'
- Over time, some Muppets were removed from the screen. For example, a character named Don Music had a habit of banging his head on piano keys in desperation. He was written out of the scripts after parents began complaining that their children were mimicking the behavior. A character named Harvey laughed so intensely that the voice actor's voice could not withstand it. Professor Hastings was such a bore that he would fall asleep during his own lectures from the sound of his own voice; it was decided to part ways with him due to his tediousness. Some episodes featuring these characters continued to air in Canada even after they had been pulled from the air in the US.
- Initially, the show's creators developed separate plots and scenes for the puppets and the human actors, but they soon realized that the audience was more interested in the puppets and paid less attention to the actors, so they changed the concept.
- In 2004, Natalie Portman appeared in one of the episodes. She was originally supposed to star in three, but after filming the first one, the actress began experiencing problems with her voice.
- Since 2005, the series has won over 100 Emmy Awards, becoming the most awarded show in the history of American television.
