- Timon the meerkat periodically refers to himself as "that rat-like guy from The Lion King" (referring to the 1994 Disney feature film). This is how his voice actor, Nathan Lane, used to describe him.
- One of the secondary antagonists in the series is named Bahuka. This is one of the names of Nala (a deity from Hindu mythology), and Nala is the only character from "The Lion King" (1994) who does not appear in the television spin-off.
