- The second season tells the story of the marriage between Henry VI and Margaret of Anjou. Margaret married at the age of 15. The actress who played her, Sophie Okonedo, was 46 years old at the time of filming.
- The series consists of adaptations of William Shakespeare's 'history' plays.
- The first part was filmed in 2011. The BBC scheduled the broadcast of the history plays about the crown to coincide with the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as part of the 'Cultural Olympiad'.
