Short description

The invasion of an alien race known as the Oni begins a new life for Ataru Moroboshi, a lecherous trouble-making tenth grader in the small town of Tomobiki. After unwittingly proposing to the Oni princess Lum Invader instead of his sweetheart Shinobu, Ataru becomes a conduit for aliens arriving on Earth, causing all sorts of havoc for him and his companions, not to mention his own reputation!

What's left behind the scenes

The series makes extensive use of Japanese folklore, which is reimagined and presented from very unexpected perspectives.
Lum's image is based on Agnès Lum, a model who was popular in Japan in the mid-70s. It is also known that Rumiko Takahashi considers Lum to be her less reserved alter ego, meaning the main character's personality is partially based on that of her creator.
