Short description

The story of the enduring friendship between Orry Main of South Carolina and George Hazard of Pennsylvania, who become best friends while attending the United States Military Academy at West Point but later find themselves and their families on opposite sides of the American Civil War.

Jonathan Frakes, who played Stanley Hazard, married Jenny Francis, who played Brad Main Hazard.
Leslie-Anne Down (Madeline Main) married cinematographer Don E. Font LeRoy.
8,700 costumes were sewn, more than 3,300 of which were for women. Each actress had between 28 and 35 costumes.
Lincoln's wife was played by Rachel Jacobs, the wife of the author of the book 'North and South'.
During filming, James Reed, who played George Hazard, married Wendy Kilborn, who played Constance Hazard. Thus, by a twist of fate, they went from being a fictional husband and wife to a real one.
