Short description

What's left behind the scenes

The main character suffers from prosopagnosia (the loss of the ability to recognize familiar faces). The patient does not recognize their relatives, friends, or even their own reflection in the mirror.
This series was inspired by the life story of Dr. Oliver Sacks (1933-2015), an American neurologist and writer of British origin. Based on his 1973 book, Penny Marshall directed the 1990 biographical drama 'Awakenings' starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams.
In November 2019, the series was in development at Fox Broadcasting Company before moving to NBC. Initially, it was named after the main character, but NBC changed the title to 'Brilliant Minds'.
