What's left behind the scenes
- Jay (played by Andy McQuin) often wears a guayabera (a men's summer shirt featuring vertical rows of tight pleats running the full length of the center of each front panel and the back, worn untucked). Such shirts are characteristic of Mexico, South American and Caribbean countries, and other Spanish-speaking nations and/or Asian countries. These shirts reflect the character's origins—various guayaberas in his wardrobe feature patterns reminiscent of six-pointed stars (a symbol of Judaism) or crosses (a symbol of Christianity).
- Artificial intelligence is a key aspect of the plot and also played a role in the creation of the series. According to the project's creators, Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, screenwriter Johnny San (who, among other achievements, holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) wrote an algorithm that the others then used to come up with episode titles. Shortly after the first season began airing, members of the Writers Guild declared a strike, and one of the demands put forward was to prevent the replacement (full or partial) of screenwriters by artificial intelligence.
