Short description
Nikita is a drug-addicted juvenile delinquent who was accused of killing a police officer in cold blood during an attempted robbery of a pharmacy. She is later arrested and sentenced to death by lethal injection, upon which she was secretly drugged by the government, faking her death. Nikita is then "recruited" by a secret government organization and transformed into a highly skilled assassin who cannot be traced.

What's left behind the scenes
- Two other actresses auditioned for the role of Nikita before Peta Wilson. According to the series creator Joel Sarnow, she was cast after the producers reviewed 200-300 other candidates.
- While undercover, Nikita always works under her own name.
- Don Franks, who played Walter, originally auditioned for the role of the head of Division One.
- The series was cancelled after the 5th season. The season number determines the number of words in each episode's title: for example, in the 3rd season, each episode title consists of 3 words.
- The first episode of Season 1 uses footage from John Badham's thriller 'Point of No Return' (1993), an American remake of the film 'Nikita' (Luc Besson, 1990).
