What's left behind the scenes

Ku Hye-sun was immediately cast in the lead female role after her audition.
The original Japanese title 'Hana yori dango', or 'Boys over Flowers', is a reference to the Japanese proverb 'Dumplings over flowers'. This refers to people who attend Hanami (the flower festival), but instead of enjoying the blossoms, pay more attention to material things—such as food or souvenirs.
The lead male role was supposed to be played by Jang Keun-suk, but he turned down the offer for a role in the series 'Beethoven Virus'.
