What's left behind the scenes

Laura Dern was originally cast as Maxine, but when work on the series began, the actress requested the role of one of the supporting characters. As a result, she played Linda, and the role of Maxine went to Kristen Wiig.
The idea for the series was inspired by the photographs of Slim Aarons, who became famous for photographing high society, movie stars, and other celebrities.
Abe Sylvia, one of the directors and writers, explained that according to the original concept, Norma was supposed to remain in a coma until the 8th episode; however, once Carol Burnett was cast in the role and the nightmare scene was filmed, it was decided to change the script and wake Norma up sooner than originally planned.
