What's left behind the scenes

When writers Brett Goldstein, Jason Siegel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they managed to get Harrison Ford on board, Siegel said that Goldstein had wanted to find "someone like Harrison Ford" for the role from the start and intended to hold auditions for such actors. Siegel told Goldstein that they should at least try to attract Ford himself; while he would almost certainly refuse, it would at least start a rumor about his auditions, which might in turn attract other actors. Eventually, Goldstein spoke with Ford, and he agreed to the role. Goldstein says he has no idea what exactly prompted Ford to agree.
The character played by Harrison Ford is based on the real-life psychiatrist Phil Stutz, the subject of the 2022 documentary of the same name by Jonah Hill.
When creating the office interiors, the show's production designer, Cabot McCallen, worked closely with the actors to create 'personalized' spaces for each character. The actors themselves were responsible for choosing many of the interior items.
