What's left behind the scenes

  • There is a lot of green in the series, and this color hints at the killer. Jasper, played by Ben Schwartz, wears green both in the flashback and at the party.
  • The project concept first came to director and screenwriter Christopher Miller in 2012; he wrote the script while filming the action-comedy '21 Jump Street' (2012). Initially, Miller and producer Phil Lord planned to make 'The Party' a film titled 'Reunion' for Sony Pictures, with Miller serving as the sole director. Unfortunately, both were hindered by their commitments to other projects. When Miller returned to the concept, he decided to film it as a series, believing this format to be more suitable.
  • The Lord Miller Productions logo is combined with colored lines. If these are converted and decoded using the 'A1Z26' cipher, the phrase 'Damn, you cracked it' emerges.
  • During the filming of the series, Ilana Glazer (who played Chelsea) was expecting a child, so she had to be filmed using specific angles chosen to ensure her pregnancy was not visible to the viewer.
  • The colors of each main character's clothing correspond to the colors of the tokens in Cluedo (a classic detective board game first published in the UK in 1948).
  • The blonde wig that Maggie (played by Everly Carganilia) wears to play hide-and-seek with Brett (played by Ike Barinholtz) was borrowed from Dave Franco, who played Javier (from his collection of movie souvenirs). Similarly, the hat tried on by the detective played by John Early, and the crossbow that the character played by Zoe Chao accidentally fires, were borrowed from the board game Hungry Hungry Hippos (which appeared in the UK in the second half of the 20th century).
