What's left behind the scenes
- Candy Montgomery mentions the retail store Target several times. The first Target store opened in Texas near the town where the character lived in 1976, and since the series takes place in 1980, she could have indeed visited one. As of 2022, the store was still in operation.
- The case of Candy Montgomery (played here by Jessica Biel) is also the subject of the HBO miniseries 'Love & Death' (2023), starring Elizabeth Olsen and Lily Rabe as Betty Gore. Olsen confirmed that Biel contacted her to discuss the fact that they both happened to play the same character in projects based on the same crime. Given that Biel and Olsen had not known each other personally before, Olsen found this very touching.
- When the miniseries was first announced in the summer of 2020, it was expected that actress Elisabeth Moss would play the role of Candy Montgomery.
