What's left behind the scenes

  • The series is based on "The Cage" (1966). This was the title of the original pilot script for "Star Trek," which was rejected, leading to its rewrite and a complete overhaul of the project's concept; this, in turn, resulted in the series filmed from 1966 to 1969.
  • Bruce Gorak, who plays Hemmer, is actually blind—just like his character's race, the Enarians.
  • Work on the series began during the restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic, so the Enterprise sets were not yet ready. According to executive producer Akiva Goldsman, this meant the first episode had to be filmed in stages—both at the beginning and at the end of production for the first season.
