What's left behind the scenes

According to Darren Barnet, when he first auditioned for the role, his character was simply named Paxton Hall. Later, showrunners and producers Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher happened to overhear him speaking Japanese with assistant director Yuko Ogata; they asked his permission to make some changes to his character's background, and thus Paxton Hall-Yoshida was born.
The storyline involving temporary paralysis caused by the death of a loved one reflects an actual event that happened to Lang Fisher's brother.
