Short description

In 1966, Texas Western coach Don Haskins led the first all-black starting line-up for a college basketball team to the NCAA national championship.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Preparing for the role of coach Don Haskins, actor Josh Lucas (born Joshua Lucas Easy Dent Mauer) gained almost 20 kilograms in weight.
  • To make John Voight more closely resemble Adolph Rupp, he was fitted with special prosthetics for his ears, cheeks, and nose.
  • The photograph shown at the end of the film depicts the real athletes of the Texas Western team from the 1965-66 season, not actors.
  • In the scene where white patrons beat Neville Shed in the restaurant bathroom, the actor decided to participate in the fight himself. This cost him a broken nose and cracks in three ribs.
