Short description
Four best friends (Tibby, Lena, Carmen & Bridget) who buy a mysterious pair of pants that fits each of them, despite their differing sizes, and makes whoever wears them feel fabulous. When faced with the prospect of spending their first summer apart, the pals decide they'll swap the pants so that each girl in turn can enjoy the magic.
What's left behind the scenes
- Less than a week before filming was scheduled to begin, the family whose home was to be used for the character played by Amber Tamblyn decided they did not want to let a film crew into their house after all. Consequently, a new location had to be found urgently for the living room scenes, and the bedroom sets had to be constructed in a soundstage.
- The scene in which Amber Tamblyn's and Jenna Boyd's characters lie in a park and look at the starry sky was filmed in a park near the soundstage. Some scenes were filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and its surroundings; filming on the soundstage allowed the actors and crew to avoid working outdoors during the cold Canadian nights. The scene in which Alexis Bledel's character becomes trapped underwater was also filmed there.
- The scene where the heroines played by Amber Tamblyn and Jenna Boyd lie in a park and look at the starry sky was filmed in a park near the sound stage. - Director Ken Kwapis never used the command 'Action!' to start filming. Instead, he would say, 'Quiet, please, and, uhhh, go.' He was teased repeatedly for this. Once, someone even ordered bright orange t-shirts with this phrase for everyone in the film's creative crew.
- Michael Rady, who played Costa, is originally from Philadelphia. He had to work hard to make his speech sound like that of someone from Greece.
- While preparing for the role, Alexis Bledel spent time at a summer camp, where she learned to ride a scooter and a mule, as well as how to scuba dive and paint.
- To film one of the scenes, the camera had to be placed on rails laid out in a circle around the main heroines. Unfortunately, completing a full circle of the camera around the heroines seemed impossible because at some point, it would start to move in front of the spotlights, creating a shadow. Fortunately, the special effects specialists were able to solve this problem by simply 'erasing' the shadow from the frame.
