What's left behind the scenes
- In Charles Dickens' novel (1812-1870), the main character is named Pip. The filmmakers believed that in modern times this name would sound strange and named the main character Finn after Ethan Hawke's dog.
- Great Expectations is another film in which fans will be able to discover the long takes that Alfonso Cuarón is so famous for.
- All of Finn's artworks and portraits of the main characters in the film were created by Francesco Clemente, an Italian painter. The actors posed for him alone before filming began.
- As producer Art Linson claims in his book 'What It Was?', the voice-over text in the film was written by David Mamet. He did it for free, but on the condition that no one would ever find out about his authorship.
