Short description
After breaking up with her girlfriend, a nightclub singer, Jane, answers a personal ad from Robin, a real estate agent with AIDS, seeking a cross-country travel partner. On their journey from New York City to Los Angeles, the two stop by Pittsburgh to pick up Jane's friend Holly, who is trying to escape an abusive relationship. With three distinct personalities, the women must overcome their differences to help one another.
What's left behind the scenes
- Holly names her daughter Mary Todd, essentially making her Mary Todd Lincoln. Mary Todd Lincoln was the wife of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865).
- To play her character with AIDS, Mary-Louise Parker lost 9 kilograms.
- When Robin tries to tell Holly that her friend is dead, she writes the French word “Morte” on the glass. The thing is, this is how one would write about a dead woman in French, while for a dead man it should be “Mort”.
