Short description
The trademark of The Phantom, a renowned jewel thief, is a glove left at the scene of the crime. Inspector Clouseau, an expert on The Phantom's exploits, feels sure that he knows where The Phantom will strike next and leaves Paris for the Tyrolean Alps, where the famous Lugashi jewel 'The Pink Panther' is going to be. However, he does not know who The Phantom really is, or for that matter who anyone else really is...
What's left behind the scenes
- Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) designed dresses for Capucine (1928-1990) and Claudia Cardinale. This was the famous designer's first Hollywood project.
- During the bathroom scene, such a powerful foaming agent was used that the actors involved suffered chemical burns. Robert Wagner, at one point completely submerged in the foam, was blinded for 4 weeks.
- Overweight Peter Sellers (1925-1980) was so envious of Robert Wagner's appearance that he went on a very strict diet, which included taking diet pills. This may have triggered a heart attack shortly before the film's release. Some biographers even claim the actor had dental work to straighten his teeth.
- Claudia Cardinale did not speak English, so the lines of Princess Dala were dubbed by 20-year-old Gale Garnett.
