Short description

The comic strip detective finds his life vastly complicated when Breathless Mahoney makes advances towards him while he is trying to battle Big Boy Caprice's united mob.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Macaulay Culkin was considered for one of the roles, but he turned down the offer, preferring to film in Chris Columbus' comedy "Home Alone" (1990).
  • Comic book enthusiast Warren Beatty wanted to include as many characters from the comics as possible in the film (in case the film didn't get a sequel).
  • Finny, one of the bullies, is killed in the garage shootout at the beginning of the film. It was incredibly difficult to do his makeup. In the comics, this character has a normal-sized head, but the size of his face does not exceed the size of an adult's nose. This character had to be filmed using composite shots.
  • Dick Van Dyke filmed for only three days and then suffered an injury, right during the filming of the scene where his character is killed.
