Short description

Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance gripped the nation, a married couple buckles under pressure when an actress arrives to do research for a film about their past.

What's left behind the scenes

The script is based on the story of a former schoolteacher in the United States who, in 1997, pleaded guilty to seducing a 12-year-old student. After serving her sentence, she married the boy in 2005. The couple divorced in 2019, and shortly after, the woman died of cancer.
Natalie Portman showed the screenplay to director Todd Haynes, hoping he would direct and cast her in the lead role.
“May-December” is an American expression used to describe a romance with a significant age difference.
Charles Melton gained over 18 kg for the filming.
