Short description
After tracing the origin of a disturbing supernatural affliction to a wealthy family's ancestral gravesite, a team of paranormal experts relocates the remains—and soon discovers what happens to those who dare to mess with the wrong grave.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film became the highest-grossing horror film in South Korea, breaking the record previously held by "Train to Busan".
- The numbers on the license plates of the main characters' cars relate to Korean history. 19 0301 is a reference to the March 1st Movement against Japanese rule, which was named after the incident of March 1, 1919; 49 0815 refers to Korea's Independence Day, which was established on August 15, 1949. The hearse has the number 1945 – the year World War II ended, and Korea was liberated from Japanese occupation.
- The film's title can be translated as "Ripple" or "Echo".
- On one of the posters, the silhouette of the sky replicates the outline of the Korean Peninsula.
- Filming period – from October 16, 2022, to March 1, 2023.
- All the shamanic rituals shown in the film are as realistic as possible. Because of this, actress Kim Go-eun was afraid that a spirit might possess her.
- The demonic samurai rips out his victims’ livers from the left side. Usually, the liver is located on the right side of the human body.
- The four main characters (Choi Min-shik, Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin, and Lee Do-hyun), as well as two assistant shamans (Kim Sun-young and Kim Ji-an), bear the names of Korean independence fighters, while the mother of the American family (Lee Young-nan) shares the name of a pro-Japanese official and informant.
