What's left behind the scenes
- During filming, Gerard Butler performed almost all the stunts himself, resulting in injuries and hospitalization.
- Michael Apted took over directing for the last three weeks of principal photography due to Curtis Hanson's health issues.
- When Jay works at Pleasure Pizza, the song Brimful of Asha by Cornershop plays in the background. This part of the film takes place in 1994, but the song was only released in 1997.
- Prior to working on this film, Gerard Butler was at best a beginner surfer. Johnny Weston, on the other hand, had been surfing for about ten years.
- Six Red Epic cameras were lost during surfing footage shooting at Mavericks.
